Volunteer Teams

 

There are many committees at HMS that can benefit from your time and talents. Explore the committees below to see where you can lend a helping hand.

 

 

Back to School Day (2 Chairs, 3 committee members)

Plan BTSD in conjunction with HMS administration and staff. Communicate to families via eblast. Request and Coordinate volunteers for a PTO membership table, Spirit-wear and School Supplies. Obligation for committee to volunteer on day of event in mid-August. 

Report to Recording Secretary on Ex Board.

 

Book Fair (1Chair) Obligation is to email HMS librarians and discuss when they will hold book fair. Request and coordinate volunteers. Assist librarians with needs during the sale. 

Report to Recording Secretary on Exec Board.

 

6th Grade Celebration (2 Co-Chairs) Obligation is June through August. Event is on or around the first Friday of the school year.  Meet with 6th grade planning team and social worker, organize games and activities, order t-shirts,  request and coordinate parent volunteers and communicate via eblast.

Report to President on Exec Board.

 

Restaurant Fundraising (1 Chair) schedule 3-4 restaurant give back nights throughout the school year, create or obtain flyers to market the event to the community and school. Submit save the date, flyer and details to the eblast for at least 2 weeks.

Parent Night Fundraisers (1 Chair) schedule two parent nights, one in Fall and one in Spring, to meet and greet. Spring Parent night to include incoming 6th grade parents. Flexibility to have raffles, or silent auctions etc. Communicate save the date, and information through eblast.

Families Helping Families (1 Chair, 2 committee members) work with school and social worker for financial needs of families within our community, meet as a committee to discuss appropriate allocation of funds and present it to the Executive Board.

Report to President on Ex Board.

 

Dance (2 Chairs, 4 committee members) work with the school to plan an all school dance. Organize parent volunteers, activities, food orders, decorations and DJ.

Report to VP of Fundraising.

 

Shop Night (1 Chair) Schedule 1 to 3 give back shop nights during the school year, create or obtain a flyer, communicate and market the event to the eblast.

8th Grade Activities (2 Co-Chairs, 3 committee members) Obligation is January-June to plan graduation event and potential year end activities for 8th graders. 

Report to President on Ex Board.

 

eBlast/Email (1 Chairs, no committee) Obligation is weekly through-out the year to write the weekly eBlast that is emailed to parents every Sunday. Review eBlast requests and communicate with school administration about any needs to be reported through the eBlast.

Fortnightly (1 Chair, no committee) Obligation is January and February to communicate with Community  House, provide our contact list and determine need for volunteers. 

Report to VP Technology on Exec Board.

 

Gardening (1 Chair, no committee) Work with school on any garden needs. 

Report to Recording Secretary on Exec Board.

 

Lost & Found (1 Chair, no committee) Throughout the year regularly communicate with school secretary need of purging lost and found items. May include contacting parents if items have names or donating/purging items when an owner cannot be found.

Report to Corresponding Secretary on Ex Board.

 

Membership (1 chair and 1 committee member) Responsible for upkeep of membership, obtaining new members, send welcome emails to new families informing them about the PTO. Monitor and Report to Ex Board PTO registration numbers.  Report to Treasurer on Ex Board.

 

SELAS/Service (1 Chair) Work with social worker and school principal on any needs of service or SELAS. Assist with the SELAS celebrations, make sure Spartan Shack is stocked up and assist with needs of sister school. Also, plan for speaker to present at one General PTO meeting or via Zoom in  the evening.  Report to President on Ex Board.

 

School Supplies/Recycling of School Supplies (2 Chairs) Obligation is in March to September.

discuss with school administration what the supply boxes should contain for the upcoming year. In April, work with supply company to confirm items in each grade kit, then advertise sales in PTO eBlast. Answer questions from 

parents and administrative staff about supplies. August/September assist with further needs of kit sales and return excess.

Spirit Wear (1 Chair, 2 committee members) Responsible for keeping spirit wear supply fresh and stocked. Obligations are March for ordering, May for 5th grade parent night to sell merchandise, Back to School Event in August to sell  merchandise. Set up online store for flash sale if requested by the board.

Staff Appreciation (2 Chairs, 2 committee members) Plan and deliver monthly appreciation events for the staff throughout the school year. Commitment obligations are for a day or two to pick up and deliver to HMS items to be given to staff.
