Speech Club

Hi everyone! My name is Joe Paveleck- one of the social studies teachers at HMS. I am starting up a club for 8th graders called "Speech Club."

As you may know, Hinsdale Central has a very competitive and reputable Speech Team. This club will expose 8th graders to the 14 events that they can choose from if they pursue high school speech. They will learn about each event, try each of them out, and eventually get to pick one they want to learn, practice, and perform. This will be an awesome way to get students comfortable with public speaking, thinking on their feet, building confidence, and performing in front of an audience.

The club will meet after school on Tuesdays, and we will have a mix of fun speech activities, games, performances, and workshops. Towards the end of the club, my hope is to schedule a "Showcase" where students will have the opportunity to prepare a piece in an event of their choice and perform it! I am really excited to get this club started and introduce students to something that I personally loved as a high school student!

Join the Families Helping Families Committee

The PTO Families Helping Families (FHF) committee supports our HMS families when an immediate need arises due to unforeseen circumstances that impact the students' day to day living. Established in 2024, the committee is modeled after Hinsdale Central's FHF. All referrals must go through the HMS social workers. Some basic need items provided by FHF may include school supplies, clothing, furniture, and gift cards for gas and food.

If you would like to join our committee (all communications done exclusively via emails), email Denys Kang at fhf@hmspto.org. FHF may ask for item donations from our committee members.

We need your support. FHF is completely self-funded and relies solely on the generosity of our HMS community. There are two ways to make a monetary contribution. You can donate via Zelle at treasurer@hmspto.org (memo FHF) or a written check to HMS PTO (memo FHF).

When FHF is called to action, the more families who come forward to offer their generosity, the easier the task. Thank you for your consideration in joining the FHF committee and your contribution to support our HMS community.

PTO General Meeting with Cory, Kory, and Dr. Wipke!

Save the Date!  Join your HMS PTO at the next PTO General Meeting on November 6 at 9:00am in the MRC. We'll be joined by Principal Cory Burke, Vice Principal Kory Kliebert, and our new D181 Superintendent, Dr. Jim Wipke. The PTO General Meetings are your opportunities to meet your fellow parents, get updates on HMS activities and initiatives, and learn more about all of the great ways the PTO and the school supports our students. We look forward to seeing you there!

Additional PTO meetings during the 2026-2027 school year will be held at 9:00 am on the following dates: January 15, March 12, and May 14. More details to come!

If you haven’t already, please join or renew your PTO membership. In addition to the fact that you must be a paid PTO member to attend meetings and volunteer, your PTO membership fee goes directly to our operating budget and allows us to support our students and teachers. You can sign up easily HERE, under Nonprofit groups.
